Alfie Tops The List

Wins by Stored Energy at Belmont Park on Saturday and by Undisclosed on Wednesday have confirmed Lynward Park’s Alfred Nobel as WA’s leading sire of two-year-olds.

Alfred Nobel, with four winners from nine juvenile runners and earnings of $324,700, leads Demerit, Snippetson, Oratorio and War Chant, will all five stallions inside Australia’s top 50.
His success should come as no surprise. Alfred Nobel was a brilliant juvenile winning the time-honoured Group 1 Phoenix Stakes-Group 2 Railway Stakes double in Ireland and he comes from one of Europe’s most successful maternal lines.
Alfred Nobel stands the coming season for a bargain $4,950.

Stored Energy won the Perth Racing Twitter Plate (1200m) at Belmont Park on Saturday and Uptown Funk won The West Australian Maiden (1100m) at Northam on Sunday.
Alfred Nobel, with 10 winners from 28 runners for earnings of $753,800, is second on the WA Second Season Sires Premiership behind War Chant (44 runners for 14 winners and $842,385). They sit 11th and 12th on the national list.

Alfred Hits The Headlines

Alfred Nobel 3Y0 Winning Sequence hit the headlines at Hawkesbury on Thursday. (April 14)

Winning Sequence, an $8 chance, finished gamely to beat the heavily-backed $1.30 debut favourite Radradra, a half-brother to Chautauqua, in the Extra Security Maiden (1100m).
The four-time Group 1 winning Chautauqua is currently No.4 on the World’s Best Racehorse Rankings behind Winx, California Chrome and Postponed.
The Team Hawkes-trained Radradra, ridden by Victorian-based Dwayne Dunn, who made the trip for the one ride, began cleanly and had a pressure free run in front.
Winning Supreme, ridden by Blake Shinn  for trainer Gary Moore, then applied pressure in the run home. The pair had a bumping duel inside the final 200m but Winning Sequence emerged strongest and scored by a half neck in 1.03.76.
Winning Supreme is from the un-raced New Zealand-bred Matilda Grace, by Stravinsky and a sister to La Italia, winner of the Group 2 Wakefield Challenge at Trentham and Listed Waikato New Zealand Bloodstock Classique. This is the immediate family of Asian Express, the 2013 champion Japanese colt, and Irish Lights, winner of the Group 1 One Thousand Guineas at Caulfield.
Winning Sequence was bred by Graham Daws’ Dawson Stud and sold for $60,000 at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.

Alfred’s Run Continues

Chetan’s success followed the win on Tuesday at Southwell by Alfred Nobel’s Carbutt’s Ridge in the 32Red Handicap run over a mile. Carbutt’s Ridge ran the favourite at 11/4 and scored by 3 3/4-lengths.
Superbly-bred Alfred Nobel, winner of the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes and Group 2 Railway Stakes in Ireland, stands at Lynward Park, Bullsbrook.

An Explosive Win

Alfred Nobel two-year-old colt Explosive Power lived up to his name by finishing hard to win the EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes (six furlongs) at Redcar in England on Friday. (October 16)

Jockey Joey Haynes sat Explosive Power, a 9/2 chance having his third start, just off the pace.
He then dashed clear near the two furlong pole to beat Regal Response (8/1) by 2 1/2 lengths. The 100/1 chance First Wheat was a further length away third.
Explosive Power had put the writing on the wall, with a third to Easy Code in the Strawberry Hill Maiden Stakes (six furlongs) at Pontefract at his previous start.

Knight Wins Again

Tough Trade Fair 8Y0 Knights Templar bought up win No. 7 with a strong performance in the Daily Mirror Handicap (seven furlongs) at Down Royal in Ireland on Friday.

Knights Templar, ridden by Gary Halpin for trainer Pat Flynn, raced handy but was held-up  for clear running in the straight.
The 8/1 chance then dashed between runners inside the final 50 yards to beat stablemate Twistsandturns (10/1) by a length with Easy Boy (81/1) a neck away third.

More Glory

Trade Fair 8Y0 Flag Of Glory gained his ninth win when successful in the TPCT Handicap (10 furlongs) at Brighton in England yesterday. (Monday, August 24)

Age is clearly no barrier for Flag Of Glory. He had won the Truvape Handicap, also over 10 furlongs, at Chepstow at his previous start.
