Alfred’s Fine Start
Alfred Nobel’s Birkdale Boy has bought up a winning double in England.
Birkdale Boy set the pace to win The App Store Handicap (seven furlongs) at Lingfield on February 18 by two lengths as an 8/1 chance.
Jockey Tony Hamilton employed the same tactics last Friday when Birkdale Boy took the 32Red.Com Handicap, also over seven furlongs at Lingfield, by 1 1/4-lengths after starting at 6/1.
Alfred Nobel has sired 10 individual winners and eight individual place getters from his first northern hemisphere crop.
And the initial runners from his first WA crop are starting to make their presence felt at Ascot – with the promise of bigger things to come.
Dickey was third to Lucky Street in the Listed Magic Millions Perth 2Y0 Classic (1100m) on February 14, Danerips’s Girl was a debut short head second to Jevilla in the Westspeed Plate (1000m) on February 25 and Showy Chloe was a debut third to London Line in the Listed Supremacy Stakes (1100m) on Saturday.
Alfred Nobel’s stock was well received at the recent Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale where eight lots sold at an average of $35,250.
