Trade Fair’s globetrotting star Trade Storm started his 2015 campaign by running second in the Group 1 Jebel Hatta (nine furlongs) in Dubai on Saturday.
The seven-year-old, ridden by Italian Andrea Atzeni for English trainer David Simcock and starting at 14/1, was slow away, settled at the tail and finished strongly.
The Jebel Hatta was won by Darley’s Hunter’s Light (4/1) ridden by James Doyle for trainer Saeed bin Suroor. The Dubawi seven-year-old had previously won the Group 1 Al Maktoum Challenge in Dubai and the Group 1 Premio Roma in Italy.
The 2/1 on favourite Vercingetorix, ridden by Belgian Christophe Soumillon for champion South African trainer Mike De Kock, was sixth. Vercingetorix had won the Group 2 Al Rashidiya at his previous start.
Trade Storm was fourth to Vercingetorix in last year’s Jebel Hatta.
He then raced in England (second in the Group 3 Strensall Stakes, nine furlongs at York, and second in the Abacus Securities Stakes, seven furlongs at Haydock); Canada (winning the Group 1 Woodbine Mile), the USA (third in the Group 1 Breeders Cup Mile at Santa Anita) and Hong Kong (seventh in the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin when held-up at the rear).
