Highly-promising English-trained Trade Fair filly Milly’s Gift made it two wins from four starts when successful in the Commission Free Handicap (six furlongs) at Kempton yesterday. (June 5)
Milly’s Gift, a 6/1 chance in a wide open betting race, tracked the leaders and hit the front in the final strides under jockey Adam Kirby to beat the 5/1 equal favourite Extrasolar by a head.
Milly’s Gift, from Milly’s Lass, by Mind Games, is trained by Clive Cox from Beechdown Farm Stables, which are on the edge of the famous Lambourn Downs.
Cox, a former national hunt jockey, hit the headlines last year with brilliant two-year-old Reckless Abandon.
He bought Reckless Abandon for 24,000 Guineas as a yearling on behalf of stable clients Julie Deadman and Stephen Barrow. Reckless Abandon was subsequently unbeaten in five runs including the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket, Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville, Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot and Group 2 Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte.
Reckless Abandon was then sold to Darley but leased back to Deadman and Barrow until the end of this year.
