Irish Eyes Smile On Balmont
Irish trainer Eddie Lynam’s success with the stock of Lynward Park’s Balmont continued when the promising Not Your Call won the Crown Plaza Stakes at Dundalk last Friday.
Not Your Call, a three-year-old having his fourth start, was untroubled to score by 1 3/4 lengths as the 5/4 on favourite.
Lynam (52) was a late starter as a trainer. He ran a building company while learning the ropes under the super-successful Jim Bolger.
He then set up at County Meath and lept into prominence training Sole Power to beat Aussie star Starspangledbanner in the 2010 Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes in England after staring at 100/1. Sole Power then won last year Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes.
Lynam also prepares the globetrotting Balmont six-year-old Balmont Mast.
Balmont Mast was placed behind Reynaldothewizard in the Group 1 Golden Shaheen, Group 3 Mahab Al Shimal and Meydan Golf Trophy in Dubai last year. He then finished fourth to Lucky Nine in the Group 1 Krisflyer International Sprint in Singapore before going back to Ireland and winning the Listed Testimonial Stakes at The Curragh.
Not Your Call, who Lynam also owns, is from the Giant’s Causeway mare Cafe Lassere and appears headed to bigger and better things.
