Owner Heaps Praise On Trade Fair

Owner Wesley White heaped praise on Trade Fair after the highly-promising Trading Day stormed home to win the Devil’s Lair Hidden Cave Handicap (1500m) at Ascot yesterday. (November 6)

“The Trade Fair’s are very tough,” said White.
“They go home and put their head straight in the feed bin. They work hard and then do everything right on the track.
“They are just good stock. You can’t go wrong with a Trade Fair.
“Trading Day is going real good. Three starts and never out of the money. You can’t ask for much more than that.
“He’s going to develop into a mile specialist.”
Trading Day was certainly overdue for the win. He had put in ‘eye-catching’ performances at his only two previous starts.
He was bumped at the start and ran on wide with the race best 34.62sec. final 600m when 1 1/2-length third to Virtual Trader in the Westspeed 3Y0 Handicap (1200m) at October 10’s mid-week meeting. Virtual Trader then won the Crown Perth Handicap (1400m) at October 20’s Saturday meeting.
Trading Day followed up with a 1 1/4-length third to Rakuroo in the Tabform Handicap (1200m) at October 24’s mid-week meeting, again running on with the race best 34.27sec. final 600m.
Trading Day, bred by Mr Bernie Stephens, is from Virelay, by Laranto, a three time winner from 1200m to 1400m. Virelay is from the family of Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Road To Success, Group 3 Concorde Stakes winner Condotti and the Listed winners Roadsong (Dalgety Bloodstock Stakes, William Crockett Strakes and Dequetteville Stakes) and Rokeby Road (R.S. Trade Fair’s soaring stocks rose even further when Petticoat Lane gained a first-up win in the Wolf Blass Handicap (1200m) at the same meeting.
Petticoat Lane, bred by Blackwatch Stud, is from the Listed Challenge Stakes winner Oxidation, by Metal Storm.
Oxidation is a sister to Metallurgy (11 wins) and to Stormy Business, the dam of Beat The Storm, 10 wins, Group 3 Belmont Sprint and Listed Birthday Stakes, and to Like An Eagle, six wins, Listed Hareeba Stakes. She’s also a three-quarter sister to Old Fashion, brilliant winner of the Group 1 Railway Stakes, Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes, R.J. Peters Stakes and Hyperion Stakes and Listed Belgravia Stakes, Challenge Stakes, Fairetha Stakes and Bunbury Stakes.
This is also the family of Group/Listed winners Business Beat, Pagonic, Marooned Lady, Special Harmony, Little Surfer Girl, King Canute, Redwoldt, Reprisal, Double Heart and Mapperholic.
Late season bookings for Trade Fair are still being taken at Alwyn Park Stud, Serpentine.
