Fituese Flying for Lynward Park

Sunday, 17 May 2020

Lynward Park-bred filly Fituese banked her first black-type in Sydney on Saturday ahead of a winter campaign in Brisbane.

Fituese improved her record to 5 wins in 7 starts in the LR Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill for Prime Syndications.  She holds a nomination for the Stradbroke Hcp (1400m) on June 6 and bookmakers reacted by shortening her quote from $26 into $15 for the Group 1 sprint at Eagle Farm.

Her connections also have easier options in the G3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben on May 30 and the G2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 13.

“She’s a filly going places,” trainer John Thompson said following an authoritative victory over Aquitaine (Exceed And Excel) and Sally’s Day (More Than Ready).  “I’ve got a healthy respect for the second horse and there was more pressure than we were expecting today but Rachel (King) just let her travel and she did the rest.”

Fituese (3f Deep Field – Cattalo by Tiger Hill) is by the same sire as last year’s G2 Karrakatta Plate winner Dig Deep.  Lynward Park had bought her dam carrying Fituese for $30,000 at the 2016 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale.

“She’s a dream to ride,” King said.  “She’s so professional and has been since Day 1.  I like the way she is progressing through the grades like nothing has changed.  She still has that super cool attitude.  You can put wherever you want in the race.

“She is never going to be one that is bolting on the bridle because she just doesn’t do that.  She just travels perfectly and seems to be a readymade racehorse.”

Lynward Park’s G2 Sandown Guineas winner Mahuta (Flying Spur) will benefit if Fituese keeps raising the bar in Brisbane.  Cattalo foaled two fillies from his first two books at Bullsbrook.
