Another Alfie Long Distance Double

It was another long distance double for Lynward Park’s Alfred Nobel on Saturday.

Uptown Funk stormed home to win the Jockey Celebration Day-Aug 6 Handicap (1300m) at Belmont Park and 14,460km away at Lingfield in England Chetan led all the way to take the 188Bet Handicap (six furlongs).

Uptown Funk has been in superb form for trainer Justine Erkelens and jockey Shaun O’Donnell winning four of seven runs this preparation and placing in the other three.

Chetan made it successive wins for trainer Charlie Wallis and jockey Adam Beschizza, and lifted his career tally to six, having won at Yarmouth at his previous start.

The previous weekend Alfred Nobel landed another international double with Black Dynamite winning at Belmont Park and Nobel Dancer successful on debut at Down Royal in Ireland.

Alfred Nobel, a Group 1 and 2 winner in Ireland for champion trainer Aidan O’Brien, has quickly developed into WA’s most promising young sire.

With 38 runners, Alfred Nobel finished ninth on the Australian Second Season Sires Premiership behind Hinchinbrook (90 runners), Star Witness (96), Beneteau (71), Rothesay (105), Reward For Effort (106), Lope De Vega (62), War Chant (52) and Captain Sonador (79).
