Trade Fair five-year-old Trade Storm ran on from last for an impressive third in Sunday’s Group 1 $965,000 Woodbine Mile in Canada won in a track record 1.31.75 by current USA Horse Of The Year Wise Dan.
Trade Storm, trained at Newmarket in England by David Simcock for Qatar Racing, was having his first start since third to Luca Cumani’s Afsare in the Group 2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood, when he also ran on from last.
The well-travelled Trade Storm was a star at the last Dubai World Cup Carnival winning the Group 2 Zabeel Mile and Jaguar XF Trophy (nine furlongs).
England’s Racing Post described Trade Storm’s Woodbine Mile effort: “Held-up well at the rear and did well to close for third. The $100,000 prize money will more than cover the airfare.”
Qatar Racing is now set to drop Melbourne spring plans for Trade Storm and prepare him for the Group 1’s at next year’s Dubai meetings.
Racing manager David Redvers said they would be represented by Dunaden (Melbourne Cup), Havana Gold (Emirates Mile) and Side Glance (Cox Plate) in Australia.
