The New Approach
Darley’s English Derby winner New Approach, a close relation to Lynward Park’s Alfred Nobel, made a perfect start to his Australian siring career when his first runner, Montsegur, won the 1000m Joe Brown Plate by 3 1/4-lengths in 57.72sec. at Caulfield on Boxing Day.
The five-time Group 1 winner New Approach, Europe’s champion two and three-year-old in 2007/8, is the hottest first season sire in Europe with 12 individual winners headed by the unbeaten Group 1 winner Dawn Approach, Group 3 winner New fangled and Listed winner Tha’ir.
“New Approach is the best looking horse I’ve ever seen,” said winning trainer Peter Snowden. “As a stallion he’s incredible, he’s a massive, strong horse but everything is in proportion. He’s magnificent.
“I can’t believe his stock are doing what they’re doing. When we got them out here we were expecting them to be three-year-olds plus. We’ve got 24 for this season and we’ve got a few really nice ones.”
Alfred Nobel was Ireland’s best two-year-old of his generation winning both the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes and the Group 2 Railway Stakes.
