Trade Fair Star Third In Big Hong Kong Group 1

Trade Fair star Packing Whiz was a gallant third in the Group 1 Champions Mile in Hong Kong yesterday.

The Champions Mile is rated one of the top 50 Group 1 races run throughout the world.
Packing Whiz went into the Champions Mile following a 1 1/2-length win over Dan Excel in the Group 2 Chairman’s Trophy (one mile) on April 7.
But Dan Excel gained his revenge in the big one.
He was positioned perfectly behind the pacemaker by Weichong Marwing while Packing Whiz got back to last under Brett Prebble, was held-up and ran on with a race best 23.01sec. final 400m.
Dan Excel won by a short head from Helene Spirit with 1 1/2-lengths to Packing Whiz in 1.33.42.
“Drawing gate No.1 won the race for us,” said winning trainer John Moore, who took his fourth Champions Mile in succession.
Kiwi star King Mufhasa, ridden by the Melbourne-based Michael Rodd, finished a distant last.
.Trade Fair will stand the 2013 stud season at an un-changed $4950, including GST, at Alwyn Park, Serpentine.
